Dos Mares is now a member of Ocean Space (www.oceanspace.org) an internet social platform dedicated to a vision of healthy and productive California oceans through science-informed ocean resource management and stewardship. The platform brings everyone together with a stake in the health of California's oceans offering new opportunities to communicate, create and share information. A shared body of scientific knowledge enables us to make informed decisions and becomes the basis for participation in the decisions that will shape the future of our oceans.

 

Dos Mares's data base continue growing

September 6, 2014: So far, Dos Mares has 320 Biology/Ecology scientific abstracts. Most of the original papers of those abstracts are available for free. There are also articles in Physic, Geology, Chemistry and Sustainable Use. We also have at this time 847 names of marine scientists who have been worked in Central America. And we continue expanding the data base!

Central America's marine protected areas are ready to visualize with Google Earth!

Now, Dos Mares's visitors can download the Google Earth's files of the Central America's Marine Protected Areas from the "Protected Areas" section. Enjoy the Google Earth's technology including photos and awesome coastal views. Basic data information of each protected area is possible to see together with the polygons of the geographic limits thanks to Protected Planet, the new face of the World Database on Protected Areas (WDPA).

Dos Mares now exhibits the new logo made by Carla D. Espinosa from PLURAL a marketing company from Nicaragua. The new logo has a contemporaneous style using the slogan: "Meet in the Middle" produced by Bryan S. Way from FIRSTLIGHTDESING a marketing company from North Carolina, USA. The slogan invite Dos Mares's web site visitors to do science in Central America. The added square frame focus in the Central America's territory and their surrounding oceans to emphasize the importance of this region for the science. The little arrows on the oceans symbolize the most prevalent coastal currents embracing the territory.

 

Preparing the Dos Mares data base

At this time Dos Mares have registered 120 organizations and 60 contacts related with the coastal-marine scientific activities in Central America. This data base include local and international organizations that implement or support research and sustainable use projects. This data base will continue growing to be one of the most complete data base in the region. Each organization is being screened and analized in order to understand their relationships with the coastal-marine scientific activities in each country and their relationship with other organizations. Dos Mares is initiating communication with those Guatemala's registered organizations in order to define terms of cooperation. This procedure will be repeated for each country.
